Antifreeze for the Hyundai Tucson

The Tucson arrives in Georgia from both Korea and the United States, with either a petrol or a diesel engine. In both cases the specification is the same: Hyundai MS591-08, for which Valvoline Zerex Asian Blue is an approved formulation.

The diesel version and the nitrite question

The Tucson's diesel versions, the 1.7 and 2.0 CRDi, are passenger-car diesels. They have no wet liners and need no additional cavitation protection, so our product suits them.

This is worth stating separately, because Valvoline Zerex Asian Blue is nitrite-free. Nitrite is used in heavy commercial diesels to protect wet liners. On a passenger car it is not needed and it attacks solder.

If your manual does call for wet-liner cavitation protection, call us before ordering and we will check it together.

A turbo engine and heat after shutdown

On turbocharged versions the coolant also serves the turbocharger housing. After shutdown the pump stops while the housing stays hot for a long time, and the natural circulation of the fluid is what protects the shaft from heat soak.

This is why it matters that the fluid does not boil at that moment. At 50/50 with a healthy cap that threshold is 128 °C.

The cap is worth checking on its own: it holds the pressure that figure is calculated for. A weak cap throws the whole margin away.
