Colloquially the two words are used for the same thing, but tosol is the name of a specific Soviet-era silicated green or blue fluid. Valvoline Zerex Asian is a different generation of product, a silicate-free HOAT. If your car currently holds tosol, flush the system first.

It is a concentrate. It needs diluting before filling, normally at 50/50.

Look at the colour in the expansion tank. Blue means Valvoline Zerex Asian Blue, green means Valvoline Zerex Asian Green, and pink or red means Valvoline Zerex Asian Red. In practice: Subaru, Honda and Acura take the blue, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda and Mitsubishi take the green, while Toyota, Lexus and Scion take the red. Nissan left the factory with both colours, so there you have to look at the tank.

Five years or 240,000 km according to the data sheet, whichever comes first. That assumes it went into a clean system and has not been mixed with another fluid.

Silicates, borates, 2-EHA, amines and nitrites. Silicon content is under 10 ppm where the JIS K 2234 standard allows up to 250 ppm.

In lowland Georgia 50/50, which protects to −36 °C. In the mountains 60/40, giving −48 °C. For a mild winter 33/67 is enough, giving about −18 °C.

Distilled or demineralised water is better. The manufacturer also permits clean tap water, since the product is hard-water compatible. Mineral and spring water are not suitable.

In summer, plain water works as an emergency measure for a day, but it boils at 100 °C, freezes in winter and offers no corrosion protection at all. It is only a way to reach a workshop.

If the system holds the same type and colour, topping up is reasonable. If the colour differs, or you do not know what is in there, the correct route is a complete flush. In an emergency, topping up still beats driving on a low level.

One bottle yields 7.5 litres of ready-to-use coolant at 50/50. Most Japanese systems hold four to eight litres, so one bottle is usually enough. Take two for a large SUV or a complete flush.

The same rule applies: the red for Toyota and Lexus hybrids, the blue for Honda hybrids, and the green for Hyundai and Kia hybrids. A hybrid has two circuits, engine and inverter, and the same type is specified for both. Leave the inverter circuit to a specialist.

Not the Asian Zerex, which is built to Asian specifications. For European cars we carry Zerex G48: according to its sheet it is approved against BMW GS 94000, the Volkswagen group's TL-774-C, Mini and Volvo up to 2015, and Mercedes-Benz is printed on the bottle. If your car needs G12++ or G13, our products are not for it and we will say so plainly.

Yes, Valvoline Zerex G48. Every Tesla uses a G-48 type, phosphate and nitrate free ethylene glycol coolant, and Valvoline's official sheet lists G48 as meeting the Tesla specification. It is a concentrate, mixed exactly 50/50 with distilled water for a Tesla. In Europe the same type is sold as Valvoline OEM Advanced 48 (OE48).

The product is nitrite-free and intended for passenger cars. If your manual calls for wet-liner cavitation protection, call us before ordering.

We would not recommend it. All three are Asian HOATs with practically the same chemistry, but they are three different products, and after mixing you can never tell what is in the system.
