Zerex Asian Vehicle Blue antifreeze concentrate

This is a blue, silicate-free, phosphated HOAT antifreeze that Valvoline developed specifically for Asian vehicles. It is almost impossible to find in Georgia, and we bring it in directly from the United States. The product is a concentrate and must be diluted before filling.

What is different about this fluid

The ordinary antifreeze you can buy in Georgia is built on European logic: it uses silicate to protect aluminium and often contains 2-EHA as well. Asian manufacturers avoid both.

Zerex Asian Blue is a patented formulation (US 5,454,967) that protects aluminium with phosphate. According to the data sheet it contains no silicates, borates, 2-EHA, amines or nitrites.

Service life is 5 years or 240,000 km, and silicon content is under 10 ppm where the JIS K 2234 standard allows 250 ppm.

Why a concentrate is an advantage

Half of a ready-mixed 50/50 fluid is water. Buying a concentrate means you pay neither the price nor the shipping for that water, and you decide what level of protection you need.

One bottle, 1 US gallon (3.78 L) concentrate, yields 7.5 litres of ready-to-use coolant at 50/50. That covers a full fill on most Japanese cars.

Diluting takes two minutes: concentrate first into a clean container, then water, mix thoroughly, and only then fill.

Which vehicles it is intended for

The manufacturer recommends the product for all late-model Asian vehicles requiring a blue or green, silicate-free HOAT chemistry.

The data sheet names Subaru, Honda and Acura, Nissan and Infiniti, Toyota, Scion and Lexus, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Isuzu, Daihatsu and Dae Woo. For Hyundai and Kia MS591-08 the formulation is approved.

If your car's factory fluid is pink, see our page comparing the blue and the red.

Laboratory test results

Aluminium water pump cavitation (ASTM D2809, 100 h)

Limit Minimum 8   Actual 10, a perfect score

10 means “perfect” and 1 means “perforated”. A direct measure of water-pump survival.

Hot surface aluminium corrosion (ASTM D4340)

Limit Max 1.0 mg/cm²/week   Actual 0.1 mg/cm²/week, ten times better than the limit

This test targets the hottest point of an aluminium head, exactly where aluminium engines fail.

Repassivation of aluminium surfaces

Limit > −400 mV   Actual +447 mV

Means a damaged aluminium surface rebuilds its own protective film.

Foaming (ASTM D1881)

Limit Max 150 ml   Actual 80 ml

Foam is air, and air does not carry heat. It also makes the pump cavitate.

Frequently asked questions

Is it genuine?
Yes, we bring the product in from the United States. The batch number and label on the bottle correspond to the manufacturer's official data sheet, which is linked on this page.
Why is this not sold in Georgia?
The Georgian market is oriented mainly toward European coolants, and fluids built to Asian specifications rarely arrive. That is exactly why we started importing it.
How long does it keep?
According to the data sheet, the product is storage stable for five years both as a concentrate and diluted.
