Coolant for the Nissan Leaf

The Leaf has no combustion engine, but it still needs coolant, because the inverter, the power delivery module and the motor are cooled by it. That circuit is usually smaller than an engine system, and many owners forget it exists entirely.

Cooling system volume (litres) depends on the circuit, check the manual

One important caution

Some electric vehicles require a different, dedicated specification for the power-electronics circuit. So in the case of the Leaf we ask you directly: before ordering, open the manual and read what is specified for that circuit.

If it calls for Nissan's blue Long Life Coolant type, our product is in the right family. If it calls for something else, we will tell you plainly that this is not for you. We would rather lose a sale than someone's inverter.

Frequently asked questions

Does an EV need antifreeze?
Yes, though not for an engine but for the power electronics and often the battery too. The fluid ages there just as it does in a petrol car.
