Coolant for Tesla Model Y

The Model Y needs the same G-48 type coolant as the Model 3: ethylene glycol, phosphate-free. There is one difference: some newer Texas-built Model Ys left the factory with orange coolant. So on a Model Y you always check the colour in the tank first.

Look at the tank first. Model Ys built in Texas for North America from October 2024 carry orange HTF-LS coolant, which should not be topped up with G48. A blue tank takes G48.

A partial top-up, for example after a pump or radiator replacement, often needs only one bottle. Mix the concentrate exactly 50/50 with distilled water.

Frequently asked questions

Which coolant does a Model Y need?
If the tank is blue, a G-48 type phosphate-free ethylene glycol, meaning Zerex G48 mixed exactly 50/50 with distilled water. If it is orange, that is HTF-LS, and G48 is not added to it.
How many bottles for a Model Y?
A fill from dry takes 13.5 to 18.4 litres: two bottles on the structural-pack RWD, three on most others. A partial top-up often needs only one.
