Antifreeze for the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire

The Alphard and the Vellfire are the same vehicle under two names. In Georgia they arrive mostly from Japan, often as hybrids. The factory fluid is pink, so what you need is Valvoline Zerex Asian Red.

Cooling system volume (litres) roughly seven to nine litres including the rear heater

The rear heater changes the whole job

A minivan also has a heater core at the back of the cabin, with coolant running the full length of the vehicle. That has two practical consequences.

First, the volume is large. With the rear circuit the system holds seven to nine litres, so one bottle of concentrate is not enough at 50/50. Take two.

Second, air is harder to bleed. Long pipes trap air pockets easily. When flushing, run both the front and rear heaters on maximum, otherwise part of the system stays outside the flush.

The Alphard Hybrid

The hybrid version adds a separate inverter circuit and a rear-axle electric motor. Toyota specifies pink SLLC for both circuits.

On a vehicle like this, changing the fluid at a workshop makes more sense than in the yard. The volume is large and bleeding follows a procedure.

Frequently asked questions

How many bottles does an Alphard need?
Two. One bottle yields 7.5 litres at 50/50, while the system with the rear heater holds up to nine litres.
